All The Fun Things To Do In Dubai

Hi this is Kish here talking about the splendid Dubai entertainment options.
Dubai is one of the most happening cities in the world today. Dubai is also regularly referred to as the City of Gold, Festival City, and the Shopping Capital of the Middle East. Dubai has dramatically transformed ever since I moved there in 1994.
As far as Dubai entertainment is concerned, Dubai City could easily be compared with cities such as New York, London, Paris, etc. In fact, you will find everything which all these different cities have to provide in one hot spot location; you got it right- Dubai! Look at my top things to do in Dubai list here.
Some of the various points of interest of Dubai comprise the various parks in Dubai, shopping malls, Dubai nightlife and restaurants.
The largest mall in the Middle East, MOE (as the general public would call it) comprises about 2,400,000 sq feet of shopping space, gaming area, movie theatres, art gallery, and mouth watering cuisines from all around the world. Its biggest claim to fame is the indoor ski slope, Ski Dubai.
Dubai Festival City, known as the World Class Waterfront Lifestyle Resort is one more not to be missed destination. It comprises shopping, dining, entertainment, homes, schools, hotels, and offices in one place. This sub area of Dubai City gives a good microcosm of what Dubai entertainment is all about!
Spread along the Dubai creek, it gives a feel of the river walk in San Antonio (hey I am living in Texas at present!), only a much cleaner and nicer version. And then there is the ever-popular Dubai Gold Market or Souk. Souk translates into a traditional market in Arabic.
This souk which is set in the center of eastern Dubai's commercial business district, Deira practically has gold everywhere. There are narrow lanes (like the alleys in Manhattan, but less scary), streets and buildings full of gold and diamonds in this area and individuals from all over the world trade almost exclusively in jewelry.
The souk has a lot to provide like earrings, bracelets, pendants, rings, and necklaces. Just a fast fact- at any given time, over 25 tons of gold is showcased at the Gold Souk.
Moving on to Dubai's night life, little did I know that there is so much in Dubai. After all, I was only seventeen when I moved out - not actually the partying age!
Bars and clubs certainly stay open until 3 am and are located all across the city in big touristy hotels. The dress codes are typically relaxed and big name DJ's are quite popular in Dubai, inspite of the fact that some don't permit jeans, sandals, or trainers. Dubai nightlife is a big piece of the complete Dubai entertainment package!
For a more mellow night out, you can unwind at a coffee shop by the waterfront and smoke a smooth flavored tobacco from a shisha (hookah) pipe. Most coffee shops and restaurants stay open till midnight or later, especially on the weekends. Or you could invariably kick back home and entertain yourself with amazing Dubai TV viewing.
Last but certainly not the least, Dubai restaurants incorporate flavors from all across the globe. From road side shawarmas (Middle Eastern style sandwich) and cocktail juices, to delicious foods in fascinating hotels, no food junkie can leave this city disappointed. If you love food, Dubai City is the place for you! The Dubai Information Site is a website on Dubai City put together from a practical and first-hand perspective. A Quick Overview Of Dubai History

I relish traveling a lot. It's one among my favorite hobbies (but expensive!). And I truly believe that having information about the history of a place you visit just adds a completely new and different dimension to your travel experiences.
So this discussion is dedicated to Dubai history. It is not a comprehensive assessment like an encyclopedia would do. However, it's a brief history lesson which can help you appreciate Dubai City more during your visit. At least I'd hope so.
The Islamic nation of United Arab Emirates (UAE) consists of seven Emirates and Dubai is one among them It is believed that Dubai existed at least 150 years prior to Union.
Dubai contains the most number of people in all of all Emirates and is second in land mass area. It is also the most liberal, modern and forward thinking Emirate since it has developed faster and farther than its counterparts.
The earliest evidence of the history of Dubai is dated 1095 CE. No records are known between then and the second oldest record as of 1587, where the author discusses Dubai as a popular place for pearl diving. As you will see, the early Dubai history is not known till today.
The royal family of Dubai (the current rulers) could be traced back to 1833 when the Al Maktoum Dynasty arrived to claim Dubai from Abu Dhabi (capital of UAE). The Dynasty was initially part of the Bin Yas clan which was settled in Abu Dhabi.
This is when Dubai became an independent Emirate and here started the ancestry of the current royal family of Dubai.
There were many challenges early in the history of Dubai. Due to its ideal Geographical location that is conducive to trading, many tried to conquer and take over the city.
This is when Dubai City agreed for protection under the British (back then Britain was a very strong defence power). Once Dubai was protected under the British, the royal family of Dubai took advantage of its location and got involved in trading with other countries. Several traders from various countries (mainly India) came to Dubai to trade goods.
History of Dubai Currency
The Gulf Rupee was the first currency used by Dubai. Dubai later joined Qatar and together formed the Riyal. The Riyal was more stable than the Gulf Rupee, that diluted in value and practically became useless.
In 1971, to further stabilize its currency and its strength, Dubai joined Abu Dhabi to form the United Arab Emirates.
Four other Emirates had already joined Abu Dhabi and one more joined in 1972. Dubai then adopted the UAE Dirham.
The Dirham has been utilized widely for a long time. Since it was used a lot in trade in Dubai, it spread widely among all merchants and traders. The Dirham was pegged to the US Dollar back in November 1997. This hasn't changed since.
Each US Dollar equates to 3.6725 Dirhams. Every Dirham comprises 100 Fills (equivalent of cents). You would most commonly see the Dirham abbreviated as "Dhs" and in some cases "DH".
While I was in Dubai in 2007, there was some speculation ( mainly rumors) that the Dirham might be revalued for the first time because it was pegged to the US Dollar. The speculation was mainly due to the devaluation of the US Dollar.
A lot of people rushed to the exchange houses trying to trade in their currency. Some made some quick money and some lost in the process.
Luckily I had some spare cash on hand and rushed to Citibank. I was able to trade in my US Dollars for more Dirhams and later found an exchange house where I traded back my Dirhams for USDs, except at a better exchange rate. I wished I had my entire bank account in Dubai at the time.

Get To Know More About a Dubai Visa

If you are not a National (Citizen) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) you'll require a Visa to Dubai The only restriction I can think of is that Dubai does not let Israeli citizens enter UAE. I won't get into the reasons here.
The good news is that Dubai Visas are relatively trouble-free to obtain. Certain states that are within the Co-operation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC) and citizens of selected nations don't have to get a Visa prior to getting into Dubai.
For GCC states, no Visa is required to enter Dubai. For citizens of some selected countries like Australia and the United States, you will get a Dubai Visa stamp upon getting into Dubai. It doesn't cost any money to get this stamp and it permits you to stay in Dubai for up to 90 days. Tourists from most other nations are allowed to remain for up to 30 days in Dubai. These tourists usually require a native sponsor (such as a business or hotel) so as to get a Dubai Visa.
Requirements for Dubai Visa
Your passport should be valid for at least two to six months before you enter Dubai. Thus make sure you check your passport before planning your trip. Application for or renewal of your passport would take a few months.
Visitor Visa to Dubai
Visitor Visas are the most widespread Dubai Visas granted by the Government of Dubai. Visitor Visas are typically short term and are intended for travelers who wish to visit Dubai or go for business purposes. Whether or not you'll require a Visa before visiting Dubai depends on country you are a citizen of. Like I stated earlier if you're a national of the GCC, you do not need a Visa to enter Dubai.
Nations in the GCC include Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia. These nations have extremely close ties with Dubai and share many political and religious views. If you are just a resident of the GCC countries, you would get a 30 day Dubai Visa upon getting into the Emirate.
Transit Visas
If you are merely passing by Dubai on your journey elsewhere, you can get a Transit Visa if you could display a continuing flight ticket. This Visa is only a 4 day (ninety six hour) Visa but is just right for you if you're a tourist so that you can take some days and tour Dubai.
This Visa will be issued by any airline operating within the UAE and is free. Emirates typically can allow you a multiple day layover since the airline is based in Dubai. Very few airlines permit you this option so take advantage of it. Consider this feature whenever you have got a layover in Dubai.
Do Not Overstay
You'll be deported if you overstay in Dubai for an excessive period of time. You may be banned from coming back. That's why it's best to not overstay.
If you overstay, you will be charged a penalty of approximately $25 per day. This range varies but usually tops off at this price. If you overstay for an extended time period, you'll be taken to the court and a penalty decision will be ruled.
Where to Get Your Visa
The official authority that handles visitor issues is the DNRD. The department is part of the Ministry of Interior. They control all Dubai Visa necessities in addition to the procedures to acquire a Visa. Their decisions vary throughout the year, especially when Dubai is hosting an event and is anticipating many visitors. Most Visas are granted at the Dubai International Airport upon arrival. I highly suggest visiting a UAE embassy near you for the most updated Dubai Visa information.
